We are THRILLED to welcome Anita Krajnc to Winnipeg VegFest 2019! Anita is the founder of Toronto Pig Save and the inspiration behind The Save Movement. Anita shot to international fame in 2015, following the now-famous protest outside of Fearman’s slaughterhouse in Burlington, Ontario — an incident that resulted in a high-profile lawsuit.
Anita has long taken inspiration from Leo Tolstoy, who wrote, “When the suffering of another creature causes you to feel pain, do not submit to the initial desire to flee from the suffering one, but on the contrary, come closer, as close as you can to her who suffers, and try to help her.” Anita has long enacted the moral imperative to bear witness by feeding water to animals on their way to slaughter.
Anita’s 2015 trial was a landmark moment in the history of the animal liberation movement. Happily, the judge dismissed the case. Anita has since become a hero to animal liberation activists worldwide.
Since 2015, local chapters of the Save Movement have sprung up all over the world, modeled after Anita’s powerful example. Today, Anita continues her calling of bearing witness to animals. She is also working on a documentary and writing a short history of the Save Movement. Most recently, she launched Climate Save Movement, a grassroots effort to bring an end to the fossil fuel and animal agriculture industries. Anita is truly a real-life superwoman!
And this September, Anita will speak at Winnipeg VegFest 2019! PLEASE NOTE: in keeping with her principled refusal to fly, Anita will be speaking by Skype, a decision we absolutely respect!
