We are THRILLED to welcome Ellie Laks to Winnipeg VegFest 2019! Ellie is the Founder of The Gentle Barn, one of the most remarkable and innovative animal sanctuaries in the world. Located in beautiful Santa Clarita, California, The Gentle Barn rescues, rehabilitates and gives sanctuary to severely abused animals. Ellie has directly rescued, cared for, and supported thousands of animals who would otherwise have been killed. She is also a professional animal trainer and specializes in working with severely abused and mistrusting dogs. Ellie has dedicated her life to being a voice for the voiceless.
But that’s not all!
Having studied childhood development at California State University, Northridge, Ellie began her career working with special needs children. She now works as the Educational Outreach Director at The Gentle Barn, where she works with hundreds of inner city, at-risk, and special needs children each year.
Today, the Gentle Barn is home to over 170 animals. Ellie manages The Gentle Barn with the help of her husband Jay Weiner, twelve staff members, and a thousand volunteers. Once healed and happy, the animals help Ellie and Jay heal at-risk, inner-city, and special needs children, who often have the same stories as the animals. Through their rescue and rehabilitation program, Ellie and Jay get to see miracles that connect animals and children every day.
And there’s more!
Ellie is the author of the remarkable book My Gentle Barn: Creating a Sanctuary Where Animals Heal and Children Learn to Hope (2014). This book is the powerful and inspiring story of Ellie Lak’s journey with The Gentle Barn. Read an excerpt here! https://bit.ly/2GvyxS2
And on Saturday, September 21st, Ellie will be speaking at Winnipeg VegFest, where she will sign copies of her wonderful book! We couldn’t be happier!
