Winnipeg VegFest Proudly Presents

1st Annual Hobby Horse Tournament

We are delighted to announce Winnipeg’s first-annual hobbyhorse tournament! Hobby horsing is an ancient, venerable sport dating all the way back to 2016 in exotic Finland (of course). It has since taken the world by storm. But what exactly is hobby horsing, you ask? Basically, it’s people doing equestrian sports — but with no horses! Instead, they use hobbyhorses, a much cheaper alternative for which actual horses are eternally grateful. The horses also thank us humans for the good laugh.

Winnipeg’s first annual hobbyhorse tournament will take place at the beautiful new Axworthy Health and RecPlex at the University of Winnipeg. Contestants will compete in a basic-level course consisting of a series of jumps. A panel of judges, all experts in the ancient sport of hobby horsing with days of combined experience, will evaluate each performance based on style, grace, and originality.

This event is open to contestants of all ages, genders, heights, and most musical preferences. No experience is required. Actually, we would be very surprised if you have any experience at all.

Note: we will provide a hobbyhorse for those who don’t have one of their own. However, participants are strongly encouraged to bring their own. Hobbyhorses are sold at local toy stores, including Toad Hall Toys and Kite and Kaboodle. A special award will be given for the best homemade hobbyhorse.

If you would like to participate in Winnipeg’s first annual hobbyhorse contest, please complete the form below. If you have any questions, please send an email to vegfest@winnipeghumanesociety.ca

Thank you! See you in September!
