The Vegan Mac ‘n Cheese SMACDOWN!
Winnipeg VegFest is delighted to announce the Vegan Mac ‘n Cheese SMACDOWN! This event is a competition for the best vegan mac ‘n cheese in Winnipeg! While “vegan mac ‘n cheese” might sound like an oxymoron, it’s actually a very popular item, thanks to the incredible variety of vegan cheeses. Vegan mac ‘n cheese is one of the beloved comfort foods of the vast and growing vegan community.
The Vegan Mac ‘n Cheese SMACDOWN! will be held on September 16, 2017 at the beautiful new Axworthy Health and RecPlex at the University of Winnipeg.
This contest is open to everyone. Contestants will be evaluated on aroma, texture, flavor, and originality. Contestant are encouraged to develop highly original recipes. A panel of judges, whose expertise is based on eating lots and lots and lots of vegan food, will evaluate each contestant on a score of 1 to 10.

- Contestants are required to bring 12 cups of mac ‘n cheese, since up to 30 members of the audience will be tasting the dish.
- Contestants must provide a list of ingredients, including common allergens (this can be done on the day of the event).
- Contestants must prepare their dish the morning of VegFest.
- Contestants must transport their dish in a crockpot, plug it in when they arrive at the venue, and then make sure their dish is reheated on high, and then maintained on low heat until finished.
NOTE: High means it must reach 74 degrees C, which a crockpot is designed to do. Then it can be turned down to low which is 60 degrees on a crockpot.
